Preakness Records Fourth-Highest Attendance

Total wagering of $81,940,233 was sixth highest in history of race, officials report.

The Maryland Jockey Club reported that Preakness Stakes (gr. I) on-track attendance at Pimlico Race Course of 117,203 was fourth-highest in the history of the race and the May 18 total handle of $81,940,233 was the sixth-biggest.

MJC reported that $50,251,542 was wagered on the Preakness itself, which was won by Calumet Farm's Oxbow .

Officials had said earlier that a forecast for rain, which materialized for part of the afternoon, would likely keep the Maryland track from exceeding last year's record attendance of 121,309. Total handle for the 13-race card in 2012 was $80,463,005.
