Overnight TV Ratings Tick Up for Preakness

NBC's Preakness coverage rose 9% for the race portion according to overnight ratings.

Overnight ratings for the May 18 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) on NBC registered a 6.0 for the race portion from 5:45-6:45 p.m. ET, a 9% uptick from a 5.5 rating in 2012.

Former NBC analyst Gary Stevens, returning to the saddle after a seven-year retirement, won the Preakness aboard Oxbow . The 6.0 rating equates to approximately 4.6 million households tuned in to the telecast.

The pre-race portion of NBC's Preakness coverage from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore (5-5:45 p.m. ET) notched a 3.6 rating, up 24% from 2.9 a year ago.

Top markets for the Preakness included Baltimore, with a 15.7 rating and 32 share, Louisville (15/27), Oklahoma City (11.2/20), Knoxville (11.1/20), and Ft. Myers, Fla., (10.6/20). The share measures the percentage of TVs in use that were tuned to the telecast.
