Barretts Equine Ltd. and the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club have scheduled the second paddock sale of "race ready" horses in training for July 21 at the Southern California racetrack.
Among the 25 horses sold at the inaugural sale in 2012 were Nechez Dawn, stakes winner at Del Mar for owner Ten Broeck Farm after being purchased for $125,000. Nechez Dawn has subsequently finished second in two stakes, including The Very One Stakes at Pimlico Race Course May 17.
I Dazzle, a $29,000 purchase by Peter Peluso, won the American Beauty Stakes at Santa Anita Park in April and finished third in the Marjorie L. Everett Handicap (gr. II) at Betfair Hollywood Park May 18.
"The objective of this sale is to encourage ownership and attract new people to the game," said Kim Lloyd, Barretts general manager.
Nominations close June 4 but entries will be accepted until two weeks prior to the sale. Horses qualifying for Del Marʼs "Ship and Win" program will receive a shipping subsidy up to $1,500.
