Arqana Summer Sale has High-Quality Offerings

Past graduates include Diakali, a three-time stakes winner over jumps this year.

The Arqana summer sale at Deauville in France is slated to resume Tuesday, July 2-Thursday, July 4. The program for the three days is as follows:

July 2: Breezes by flat-bred 2-year-old and 3-year-old store horses on the Deauville Racecourse Fibresand track.

July 3: Sale of flat-bred 2-year-olds and 2- and 3-year-old store horses.

July 4: Horses in training sale for both flat and National Hunt.

The catalog is made up of 348 lots, including 184 horses in training, 76 2- and 3-year-old stores as well as 82 flat-bred 2-year-olds all eligible for the "Breeze Up Jackpot" with a total prize of €200,000 funded by Arqana.

A first bonus of €10,000 will be awarded any 2-year-old winning one of the 10 maiden races selected for the challenge, while the €100,000 super bonus will reward the first 2-year-old to follow up a victory in one of these races with a win at the listed or group level in France this year.

The sale of unraced 2-year-olds will feature horses by such stallions such as Acclamation, Authorized, Dubawi, Dutch Art, Dylan Thomas, Elusive City, Exceed and Excel, Green Tune, Holy Roman Emperor, King's Best, Lawman, Manduro, Medicean, Oasis Dream, Oratorio, Orpen, Poliglote, Shamardal, Smart Strike, Stormy River, Astronomer Royal, Bushranger, Falco, Henrythenavigator, Intense Focus, Myboycharlie, Naaqoos, and Soldier of Fortune.

Past graduates of the sale include Aga Khan Studs homebred Diakali, a three-time stakes winner over jumps this year in Ireland and France, and additional 2013 stakes winners Ma Filleule, Medinas, and Katenko. 

Among the three store horses by leading stallion Poliglote is La Première Dame (lot 111), a 2-year-old half sister to stakes winner La Segnora, consigned by Haras de l'Hôtellerie.

Lot 138 (consigned by Elevage des Trois Rivières) is a 2-year-old filly by Martaline and the first offspring out of stakes winner En La Cruz, herself a half sister to eight-time English stakes winner Voy Por Ustedes.

Also a son of Martaline, Smartlou (lot 165) is offered by Ecurie d'Auro. The 2-year-old is out of stakes winner Loumie and is a half brother to stakes-placed Policy Jumper.

Among the six store horses on offer from Ecurie des Noës, two geldings stand out: Gesbond (lot 145) and Chic Theatre (lot 161). The first named is a 2-year-old Deportivo half brother to Gemix, winner of the June 9 Grand Course de Haies d'Auteuil Hurdle. The second named is a 3-year-old son of King's Theatre out of stakes winner La Reine Chic, and a half brother to stakes winner Cigliano and stakes-placed runner Shmabeni, both of which performed over jumps.

From the family of Kauto Star and Kauto Stone, 2-year-old Kauto Riko (lot 159 and consigned by Haras de la Hêtraie) is a Ballingarry half brother to stakes-placed jumpers Kauto Sweety and Kauto Shiny.

The summer sale also offers a selection of 184 horses in training which will go through the ring July 4.

Standouts among the flat horses include:

Piana (lot 259, in training with Yan Durepaire), a stakes winner and half sister to French group II winner Grandcamp, and from the German family of group II winner Grimpola. A 3-year-old, Piana already has three victories in almost as many starts including the June 5 Prix Mélisande at Maisons-Laffitte.

By Kendargent, Onedargent (lot 260, in training with Jean-Paul Gallorini), is a listed stakes winner in France and group III-placed at Longchamp.

Kamran (lot 271), consigned by Wertheimer & Frère and in training with Freddy Head, ran third as a 2-year-old in the Prix Roland de Chambure at Longchamp.

Valiyr (lot 286), Baradari (lot 285) and Dispour (lot 362) are all representatives of the Aga Khan Studs. In training with Alain de Royer Dupré, the first named is a listed stakes winner and group II-placed in France while Baradari was twice stakes-placed in France for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget. Dispour, a 3-year-old son of Monsun trained by Mikel Delzangles, was a winner in his last start at Maisons-Laffitte June 5.

Horses of note among the jumpers include: Vanadium (lot 212), Kitchapoly (lot 216), Ultragold (lot 221), and Smashing (lot 234).
