Ninety-seven Pennsylvania-bred racehorses were entered in 10 races at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course as part of "PA Owners Appreciation Day" June 22.
All the races on the program are for state-bred runners, including two $60,000 turf stakes: the Wiseman's Ferry HBPA and Smarty Jones HBPA, which are named for stallions that stand in Pennsylvania. The program begins at the customary post time of 6 p.m. EDT.
"Saturday is going to be a terrific night of racing that will highlight many of the top Pennsylvania-bred horses along with showcasing many of the terrific stallions that stand at stud in the state," said Dan Silver, director of racing operations at Penn National. "We extend our sincere thanks to Pennsylvania HBPA president Tim Shea and the entire HBPA board for making this night possible, and to the Pennsylvania horsemen for so strongly supporting these races."
Purses for the eight non-stakes will total more than $300,000.
