Third in the Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser after setting the pace, Original Script returns three weeks later in the $250,000 Bison City Stakes, the second jewel of Canada's filly Triple Crown June 30 at Woodbine.
Chiefswood Stable's homebred daughter of Malibu Moon wound up 1 1/2 lengths behind the victorious Nipissing and Spring in the Air in the 1 1/8-mile Oaks June 9 after leading to deep stretch under Jesse Campbell. The gray filly set a moderate pace that day over the Polytrack and figures to have a similar trip in the Bison City, which is a sixteenth of a mile shorter.
The Bison City attracted seven 3-year-old Ontario-bred fillies. It is the eighth race on Sunday's card with a 4:22 p.m. EDT probable post. Nipissing, also owned by Chiefswood Stable, is being pointed to the $1 million Queen's Plate July 7, as is Spring in the Air.
Original Script, trained by Paul Attard, won an allowance race at Woodbine in front-running style May 18 as a tuneup for the Woodbine Oaks. Seeking her first stakes victory, she will be ridden once more by Campbell from post 2.
Also coming out of the Oaks is Sam-Son Farms' homebred Smartyfly, who prompted the pace before weakening to fourth in the final sixteenth. She finished nearly five lengths behind Original Script. Malcolm Pierce trains the daughter of Smart Strike, who ran second to the Spring in the Air in the seven-furlong Fury Stakes prior to the Oaks. Eurico Da Silva rides from gate 6.
Big Brown Brookski is developing nicely for Reade Baker, who trains the Big Brown filly for Jim and Susan Hill. The bay won an allowance race at 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf June 9 following a maiden special weight score over the Polytrack going seven furlongs. Out of the Montbrook mare Ms Brooksi, she'll be tested for distance here.
Baker is seeking a record fifth win in the Bison City.
Martin and Victoria Earle's homebred I'm a Kittyhawk won Woodbine's Lady Angela Stakes at seven furlongs by half a length May 25 for Robert Crean in a 19-1 upset. She defeated 3-5 favorite Strut the Course, who looks to rebound here from her fourth-place finish for trainer Barbara Minshall.
John Unger's Strut the Course was second, a half-length behind Nipissing, in last fall's Princess Elizabeth at Woodbine. She opened her 2013 campaign with a 5 1/4-length allowance romp.
Sarah Her Highness, third in Woodbine's Trillium Stakes at 44-1 June 8, and Cabo Queen, fourth in the June 9 Alywow, complete the field.
