Favored Original Script, a game third in the Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser last time out, led every step of the way at Woodbine June 30 to capture the $237,700 Bison City Stakes by one length (VIDEO).
Chiefswood Stable’s Original Script set the pace in the Woodbine Oaks June 9 before being passed in deep stretch by Nipissing, also owned by Chiefswood. With Nipissing preparing to take on males in the $1 million Queen's Plate July 7 and a sixteenth of a mile less to negotiate in the Bison City, Original Script proved too tough for her six rival Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies.
It was the first stakes win for the gray daughter of Malibu Moon out of the winning El Prado mare Seanachai, a $650,000 Keeneland yearling purchase by Chiefswood in 2003 from the consignment of Paramount Stables, agent.
Ridden by Jesse Campbell for trainer Paul Attard, the 11-10 choice was timed in 1:45.09 for the 1 1/16-mile Polytrack test after carving dull fractions of :25.19, :50.24, and 1:15.10. Big Brown Brookski drew to within a half-length of the leader rounding the far turn, but Original Script quickened leaving the bend and opened a 2 1/2-length lead in the stretch. She held on under steady urging by one length over the oncoming Smartyfly, ridden by Eurico Da Silva.
Strut the Course finished third with Tyle Pizarro aboard, 3 3/4 lengths behind the winner.
"Good horses make good things happen," said Campbell. "Honestly, we were happy with the pace. She ran a great race. She was calm today. She’s grown up mentally. I give all the credit to the barn."
Attard also was pleased with the effort of his galloping gray.
"She’s become such a professional," he said. "She was a little high-strung as a 2-year-old but she’s really matured now and a lovely filly to work with."
Original Script recorded her fourth win in seven career outings and increased her earnings to $363,628. She is the first stakes winner for her dam, who has had two foals to start. Original Script was stakes-placed at 2 in the Ontario Lassie in addition to her placing in the Woodbine Oaks. She won an allowance race May 18 at Woodbine.
Under equal weights of 121 pounds, Original Script paid $4.20, $2.50, and $2.20, combining with Smartyfly ($4.10, $3) for a $12.60 exacta. Strut the Course paid $3.90 to show.
