Cosmonaut's First Winner Scores at Saratoga

Marvin's Miracle records first victory for New York sire at Saratoga Race Course.

New York stallion Cosmonaut celebrated his first winner practically in his backyard when Marvin's Miracle posted a three-quarter-length victory in his second start Aug. 8 in the fifth race at Saratoga Race Course (VIDEO) .

The 2-year-old colt, ridden by Javier Castellano, tracked the pace in third until moving up to second in the stretch and pulling ahead for the win in the 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight on turf.

The gray colt was bred by the late Carl Lizza's Flying Zee Stable in New York and is out of the Western Expression mare Idle Gossip.

Trained by Juan Coronel, the win was also a first for fledgling owner Bacon Barn.

Cosmonaut was bred in Kentucky by Patricia Pavlish. Upon his retirement the multiple graded stakes winner boasted a record of 8-8-3 from 36 starts and earnings of $1,397,723.

An 11-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid , Cosmonaut is out of  Cosmic Fire, a daughter of  Capote.

Cosmonaut is a Highcliff Stallion standing at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds near Saratoga Springs, N.Y. His fee for the 2013 breeding season was $5,000.
