Golden Gate Begins Brief Summer Meet Aug. 16

The 19-day affair runs through Sept. 15, to include special Labor Day program.

Live thoroughbred racing returns to Golden Gate Fields Friday, Aug. 16 when the Northern California track opens its 2013 summer meeting, a 19-day affair that runs through Sept. 15.

Post time opening day and on subsequent Fridays is 3:45 p.m. PDT. Post time all other days is 1:15 p.m. and the weekly breakdown of the racing schedule is as follows:

Week One (Aug. 16-18): Racing Friday through Sunday.
Week Two (Aug. 22-25): Racing Thursday through Sunday.
Week Three (Aug. 29-Sept. 1): Racing Thursday through Sunday.
Week Four (Sept. 2, Sept. 4, and Sept. 6-8): Racing Monday (Labor Day), Wednesday (closing day at Del Mar), and Friday through Sunday.
Week Five (Sept. 13-15): Racing Friday through Sunday.

Golden Gate Fields will offer Dollar Day cards every Sunday, when general parking, general admission, programs, hot dogs, beers, and sodas are just a buck each. The track will also conduct a Dollar Day program on Monday, Sept. 2, Labor Day.  The holiday card will be highlighted by the $50,000 Rolling Green Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile turf contest for 3-year-olds and up.
