Point of Entry Has First Gallop Since Injury

Shug McGaughey is confident 5-year-old will be ready for the Breeders' Cup Turf

Trainer Shug McGaughey said Aug. 20 that the Phipps Stable's homebred Point of Entry  had his first gallop since being injured and he is confident the colt will make it back for the Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) at Santa Anita Park Nov. 2.

Point of Entry suffered a condylar fracture of the left hind cannon bone in his victory in the June 8 Woodford Reserve Manhattan Handicap (gr. IT) that required surgery, which was performed by Dr. Larry Bramlage.

"He galloped a mile in Ocala this morning," McGaughey said on an National Thoroughbred Racing Association national teleconference. "He's the kind of horse who will come around quickly. After having two weeks of stall rest and two weeks of hand-walking, he'd been jogging the past week and had his first gallop today."

Point of Entry, a 5-year-old son of Dynaformer, has won nine of 17 starts for earnings of $2,314,490, scoring five grade I wins on the turf and finishing a fast closing second in last year's Breeders' Cup Turf.
