Allen Secures 3,000th Career Riding Win

Jockey based at Presque Isle rode Fort Larned to stakes win in 2012 at Tampa Bay.

Using a four-wide move at the quarter pole, veteran jockey Ronald Allen Jr. posted the 3,000th win of his career when he guided Burkholder Stables' Ghost Flower to victory in the second race Sept. 11 at Presque Isle Downs (VIDEO).

By mount purse earnings, Allen ranks fifth in the Presque Isle rider standings through Sept. 11.

A winner of four riding titles at Tampa Bay Downs, including top honors in the 2010-11 season, some of the top mounts for Allen have included 1993 Tampa Bay Derby winner Marco Bay and Hoist Her Flag, who Allen guided to five stakes wins in 1987 and 1988 at Canterbury Park.

The East Liverpool, Ohio native has won 77 stakes races in his career, including three this season at Tampa Bay aboard Hooh Why, Wild About Chrome, and Magic Hour. In March 2012 at Tampa Bay, he guided eventual Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) winner Fort Larned  to victory in the Challenger Stakes.
