Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort received regulatory approval Sept. 24 for its 2014 live racing season, which will maintain the customary 210 programs but alter the weekly schedule.
Mountaineer for several years has raced generally five days a week on a Friday-through-Tuesday schedule over a 10-month period. Next year the West Virginia track will drop Friday nights in favor of Wednesday night racing under a plan approved by the West Virginia Racing Commission.
"We think that it will increase handle revenue," Mountaineer director of racing Rose Mary Williams said.
Racing as usual will be held at night with the exception of an afternoon program on West Virginia Derby (gr. II) day in early August. Mountaineer races from March through December.
