Stallion North Light to Stand in England

The son of Danehill will stand at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket beginning in 2014.

Lanwades Stud and Adena Springs are pleased to announce the relocation of Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) winner North Light  to stand at Lanwades beginning in 2014. His fee has been set at £6,000.

Ballymacoll Stud-bred and owned North Light, by Danehill—Sought Out, by Rainbow Quest, was trained by Sir Michael Stoute. As a 2-year-old he won at Goodwood. At three, he won the Dante Stakes (Eng-II) at York prior to winning the Derby and finishing second in the Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-I). He was rated 3-year-old English highweight colt and earned total winnings of £1,097,276.

"We welcome the addition of Derby winner North Light to our stallion roster," said Kirsten Rausing, owner of Lanwades Stud. "A proven stallion, having already produced group/graded stakes winners on three continents, including the St Leger (Eng-I) winner and champion three-year-old stayer Arctic Cosmos, North Light should greatly appeal to European breeders."

Retired to stud at Adena Springs, North Light is to date sire of winners of nearly $6 million, including Arctic Cosmos; multiple graded stakes winner Chips All In, winner of the Sept. 28 Eddie D Stakes (gr. III); Go Forth North, a grade III winner of $300,000;  Del Mar Handicap (gr. II) winner Celtic New Year; champion 2-year-old filly Battlelight, etc.

North Light was Canada's 2012 champion turf sire, his yearlings making up to $450,000.

Andy Stronach of Adena Springs said the relocation of North Light to England is in keeping with Adena Springs' long term goal to develop top class international stallions.

"I believe this move will have a positive impact for European breeders by making available a superbly bred horse that has a proven track record as a stallion," Stronach said. "He has the ability to sire runners on all surfaces but most importantly he sired an English classic winner in his first crop."
