Cool Coal Man to Journeyman Stud for 2014

Son of Mineshaft will stand for $3,500 live foal stands and nurses.

Cool Coal Man, a grade II-winning son of Mineshaft , will stand the 2014 breeding season at Brent and Crystal Fernung's Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla.

The 8-year-old horse, who previously stood at Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds in Ocala, will stand for $3,500 stands and nurses.

Trained by Nick Zito for Robert LaPenta, Cool Coal Man won 10 of 30 starts and earned $929,728. Cool Coal Man won his first seven career starts, highlighted by the Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II), and placed in five graded stakes. He earned a 107 Beyer rating when winning the 2009 Albert the Great Stakes at Saratoga Race Course by 12 3/4 lengths.

"Cool Coal Man was a top racehorse with a great pedigree," said Brent Fernung. "He's a grade II winner at 3, earned over $900,000, and won from 6 1/2 furlongs up to a mile and an eighth. We appreciate Mr. LaPenta giving us the opportunity to stand him."
