R Heat Lightning Fetches $1.6M at Keeneland

R Heat Lightning was offered in the dispersal of E. Paul Robsham's stable.

Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet went to $1.6 million to land grade I winner R Heat Lightning early at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale Nov. 5 in Lexington.

Keeneland November didn’t take long to register its first seven-figure horse as R Heat Lightning was offered as Hip 16. Consigned by Lane's End, the mare was offered in the complete dispersal of E. Paul Robsham Stables.

"It's a great collection," said Bill Farish of Lane's End. "They've pared down over the years to a really select group of mares and foals, and we're glad to be doing it but sorry to see the mares go, because they're a nice group."

The 5-year-old Trippi mare won the 2010 Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course and finished second to Awesome Feather in that year’s Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.

At 3, R Heat Lightning won the Davona Dale Stakes (gr. I) and Gulfstream Oaks (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park.

R Heat Lightning is believed to be in foal to Bernardini . This year she produced a Medaglia d'Oro  filly. That weanling filly was the next horse through the ring and she sold for $250,000 to Dell Ridge.

Out of the winning Gold Fever mare Yellow Heat, R Heat Lightning is a full sister to stakes-placed winner Hot Trip. R Heat Lightning was bred in Kentucky by Robsham.
