Fee Increases for Mizzen Mast, First Defence

Fees announced for Juddmonte stallions Mizzen Mast and First Defence.

Juddmonte Farm announced Nov. 11 that Mizzen Mast , the sire of two-time Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT) champion Mizdirection, will stand for $20,000 in 2014 and First Defence will have a fee of $15,000. Both fees are on a live foal basis and due Nov. 1.

Mizzen Mast stood at the Lexington, Ky. farm for $15,000 in 2013 and First Defence stood for $7,500.

A 15-year-old son of Cozzene who won the Malibu Stakes (gr. I), Mizzen Mast has been represented by 31 stakes winners and progeny that have earned in excess of $25 million. Mizdirection, who sold for $2.7 million at the Fasig-Tipton November sale following her second Breeders' Cup triumph, is one of five grade I winners for her sire.

Foals from the first crop of First Defence, a 9-year-old son of Unbridled's song who won the Forego Handicap (gr. I), are 3-year-olds of 2013 and include multiple grade I winner Close Hatches, who finished second in the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I).
