The board of directors of the Thoroughbred Owners of California unanimously voted to appoint owner William Strauss to fill a vacancy on the board created by the recent resignation of Dennis Cardoza.
Strauss, known as Bill, resides in Del Mar. He was co-founder and CEO of Provide Commerce/Proflowers, a company he took public on NASDAQ in 2003 and sold two years later. Prior to that he was a senior vice president for ChipSoft/Intuit. A lifelong fan of Thoroughbred racing, Strauss has enjoyed much success with horses such as The Pamplemousse, Turbulent Descent, and Mizdirection since he became an owner.
"We are very pleased to welcome Bill Strauss to the board," said chairman Mike Pegram. "His experience as a businessman combined with his passion for horse racing make him a very positive asset to the TOC board of directors."
"I look forward to helping promote consensus among owners, trainers, gamblers, and track management," Strauss said. "With sound reasoning and a healthy dialog on issues such as takeout and medication, we can come together with a common voice. I believe in transparency to all constituents and using fact-based data to come to decisions."
TOC is the official organization serving Thoroughbred owners in the state.
