City Wolf , a half brother to top North American sires Ghostzapper and City Zip, has joined the rapidly-growing stallion roster at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston, Fla., near Ocala, Joe and Helen Barbazon announced Dec. 20.
City Wolf is a graded stakes-winning son of perennial leading sire Giant's Causeway out of the Relaunch mare Baby Zip, dam of eight winners and Broodmare of the Year nationally in 2005.
A winner from seven furlongs to 1 1/8 miles, City Wolf raced in the colors of Frank Stronach's Adena Springs. During a four-race winning streak in 2011 he captured Durham Cup Stakes (Can-III) at Woodbine going 1 1/8 miles by 2 1/4 lengths. He also finished second in Woodbine's Seagram Stakes (Can-III) at 1 1/16 miles, and was second in the 2012 edition of the Durham Cup. City Wolf banked $293,686 while winning four of 18 races with four additional placings.
Half brother Ghostzapper (Awesome Again ) is one of the premier sires in North America after a career in which he earned $3.4 million, winning such prestigious grade I races as the Breeders' Cup Classic, Metropolitan Mile, Woodward Stakes and Vosburgh Handicap. He was named Horse of the Year and champion older male in 2005. Half brother City Zip was a six-time graded stakes winner who earned $818,225 and is also a successful sire, with 46 stakes winners and nearly $43 million in progeny earnings.
City Wolf will stand for $4,000 in 2014, payable when the foal stands and nurses.
