Service Set for California Trainer Tex Burch

The veteran of 47 years on the Northern California racing circuit died Dec. 18.

A memorial service for former California trainer Eldwin "Tex" Burch will be held in Fresno Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. PST at the Chapel of the Light. 

A horse trainer for 47 years racing at Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields, and the California fairs, Burch was 78. He died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Fresno with family and friends at his side Dec. 18.  The Texas native was assisted in training horses by his wife of 47 years, Audrey.

A consummate horseman, Burch was also a successful showman with roping and cutting horses.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by stepchildren Bobby Burns and Cindy Wilfer, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. The Chapel of Light is at 1620 W. Belmont, in Fresno.
