Evangeline Downs Racetrack Casino & Hotel in conjunction with the Breeders' Sale Company of Louisiana will host a 2-year-olds in training sale March 9.
The the "Stars of Tomorrow" sale will begin at 10 a.m. CST with the gallop preview show scheduled for March 8 at noon.
Evangeline Downs will offer a pair of six-furlong stakes for 2-year-olds with a purse of $100,000 each in August 2014. The Evangeline Downs Star will be for colts and geldings while the Evangeline Downs Starlet will feature fillies.
The purse of each race includes a $25,000 bonus for horses that are graduates of the March sale, and those horses will be preferred when entries are taken.
In addition, a $10,000 bonus, to be split equally between the two races, will be awarded to any consignor whose March sale horse wins.
In order to accommodate consignors who wish to take a shot at the bonus money, the entry deadline for the sale has been extended one week to Jan. 20. The entry fee is $350 with a 5% commission ($300 minimum). Late entries will require a fee of $500 with the same commission fee structure.
"This sale has become a mainstay for the local racing industry and we look forward to it each year at Evangeline Downs," said Chris Warren, director of racing operations for Delta Downs and Evangeline Downs. "We are proud to offer the only 2-year-olds in training sale in the state."
"We are excited to partner with Evangeline Downs and its parent company Boyd Gaming for the Stars of Tomorrow 2-year-olds in training sale," said Brett Brinkman, chairman of the Breeders' Sale Company of Louisiana. "We also look forward to expanding this sale in the future and making it even more successful in the years to come."
