Notional Relocated to Rockin' Z Ranch

Three-time graded stakes winner previously stood at Spendthrift Farm.

Notional, a three-time graded stakes winner and runner-up in the 2007 Florida Derby (gr. I), has been relocated to stand the 2014 breeding season at Dr. Robert Zoellner's Rockin' Z Ranch near Beggs, Okla.

The son of In Excess will stand for $2,000 and joins a roster that also includes Omega Code and Kennedy. Notional, now property of Zoellner and Clark Brewster, previously stood for $7,500 at B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm near Lexington.

A debut winner at 2 and graded stakes-placed, Notional kicked off his 3-year-old campaign with consecutive victories in the San Rafael Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita Park and Risen Star Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots before finishing a game second in the $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park.

During his 4-year-old season, Notional added a victory in the Salvator Mile Handicap (gr. III) at Monmouth Park before retiring with a record of 4-1-2 from 12 starts and earnings of $733,240.

From two crops to race, Notional has sired 33 winners, three stakes winners, and the earners of more than $1.1 million. Among best progeny are Risky Call, winner of the 2012 Canadian Juvenile Stakes at Northlands Park; Wargamer, winner of the 2013 Razorback Futurity at Louisiana Downs; Awesome Gem, a stakes winner in Venezuela; and Hopeful Notion and Lady Notional, both stakes-placed in Louisiana.

Notional is also the sire of Malachite, an earner of more than $100,000 in six starts on the New York circuit.

Bred in Kentucky by Vessels Stallion Farm, Notional is out of the winning French Deputy mare Truly Blessed. A $77,000 yearling, he fetched $235,000 at the 2006 Barretts Equine Limited March sale of selected 2-year-olds in training.
