Charles Town Cancels Wednesday Night Card

The March 5 card at Charles Town Races and final six races at Laurel Park canceled.

Because of inclement weather that moved through the area this week, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has canceled its live racing program scheduled for Wednesday, March 5.

The track will remain open for simulcasting with the next day of live racing scheduled for March 6.

Also, the final six races of Wednesday's card at Laurel Park were canceled due to track conditions. The day began with the main track listed fast but with temperatures rising to 40 degrees by the third race, moisture came to the top of the main track.

"The rising temperatures were what worried me this morning," said Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas. "The changes from cold to warm caused a nightmare on the race track. We have had a tremendous amount of moisture between snow, ice, and rain. My crew is great but sometimes Mother Nature wins and Mother Nature won today."

Live racing is scheduled to return March 6 with a nine-race program that begins at 12:35 p.m. Eastern.
