Dick Downey, an attorney and founder of the "The Downey Profile" that is a regular feature at, has been appointed by Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear as a Warren (Bowling Green) Circuit Family Court Judge. (See executive order)

Downey, who previously had a private legal practice in Franklin, Ky., and also practiced with Kentucky Legal Aid, will serve out the remainder of the term of the late Margaret Huddleston. Downey will not be a candidate for the November general election in which Huddleston's successor will be chosen.

"The Downey Profile" is a website dedicated to comprehensive coverage of the Triple Crown Trail, Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), and other special events. It is in its 12th year of publication. Downey is a member of the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters Association.

"I volunteered to fill out the unexpired term of the late Margaret Huddleston, and I feel honored that the governor chose me to do that," Downey said. "I am not seeking election to the office. Judge Huddleston was an excellent family court judge. She had to leave the bench with what turned out to be her final illness in early October, and she passed away on Jan. 3. I am ready to get to work."

Downey was one of three finalists whose names were submitted to Beshear for consideration by the Warren County Judicial Nominating Commission.
