Graded Stakes Producer Willow Woodman Dies

Daughter of Woodman, who died at 23, is the dam of three stakes winners.

Graded stakes producer Willow Woodman died March 31 due to the infirmities of old age. She was 23 and resided at owner Fred Pace's farm in Trapp, Ky.

The daughter of WoodmanSide Dancer, by Topsider is the dam of 13 foals, 11 of which were starters with 10 winners, for progeny earnings of $1,559,079.

Among Willow Woodman's best offspring are stakes winners Willow O Wisp, Will O Way, and Kizzy's Chaos.

Willow O Wisp won four graded stakes on the West Coast circuit and set a turf course record in the 2005 Del Mar Derby (gr. IIT) when he covered nine furlongs in 1:45.85. He retired with earnings of $718,204. Will O Way won a pair of stakes at Golden Gate Fields and ran third in the 2008 Del Mar Debutante (gr. I). She retired from racing with earnings of $210,500. Kizzy's Chaos set a track record at Hollywood Park in the 2009 Gallant Man Handicap when he ran 1 5/8 miles in 2:43.48.

Willow Woodman is also the granddam of Paso Doble, a multiple stakes winner with earnings of $784,102.

Bred in Kentucky by Wafare Farm, Willow Woodman raced for Red Oak Stable and retired from racing with a record of 2-3-2 from 17 starts, for earnings of $36,907.
