The Daily Racing Form has reported that Steven Crist, the editor and publisher emeritus of the publication, was placed in a hospital April 6 in critical but stable condition after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y.
Crist, 57, had the episode one day after attending the Twinspires.com Wood Memorial (gr. I) card at Aqueduct Racetrack, DRF reported.
The author of several handicapping books, Crist was part of a group that purchased the DRF in 1998 and remained as publisher emeritus and as a columnist after it was later sold. In addition, Crist co-founded the Racing Times, a competitor to DRF, in the early 1990s and was a vice president of the New York Racing Association.
