OBS spring sale graduates have long been a major force at North American racetracks, with 21 horses topping $1 million in earnings and eight horses winning Eclipse Awards. Since the beginning of 2013, there have been 155 spring sale graduates to win or place in 262 stakes, including 61 graded races.
Fifty-two stakes horses have already emerged from last year's sale, including 16 stakes winners. At the head of the class of 2013 is spring sale catalog cover horse Fashion Plate, who added the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I) April 5 to her earlier victory in Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) in February. Racing for Arnold Zetcher and Michael Tabor, the daughter of Old Fashioned was purchased by trainer Simon Callaghan for $340,000 out of the De Meric Sales consignment. She has earned $459,250 to date.
