A daughter of Half Ours topped the inaugural Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana's 2-year-olds in training and horse of racing age sale April 28 in Opelousas, selling for $69,000 to Ralph Wadleigh's Energy Solutions Consultants.
In the 2-year-old portion of the sale, 36 of 59 horses offered sold for total receipts of $604,900, an average of $16,803 and a median of $11,500.
In the horses of racing age session, 14 of 15 horses sold for total sales of $63,600, an average of $4,543.
All told, total sales for the auction amounted to $668,500.
"The results show there is plenty of demand from buyers for 2-year-olds and an ample supply of quality horses to meet that demand. We look forward to growing this sale for years to come," said Foster Bridewell, sales director.
The sale topper, named Winning Answer, was consigned by Twin Oaks Training Center, agent. The Louisiana-bred is out of the stakes-winning Peteski mare Answer to Me and is a half sister to stakes winner Sports Town. The filly turned in the co-fastest breezed time of 10 3/5 for one furlong during the sale's under-tack show April 26.
The day's second-highest price of $67,000 was for a Louisiana-bred colt by Lydgate purchased by Joe Duhon, agent for Jim Donnan. Named Missy'sprettyboy and consigned by C.J. Woodley, the colt is the first foal out of the winning Double Honor mare Double Stuff, who is a full sister to grade I-placed stakes winner Lovely Isle.
Next up on the Equine Sales Co. calendar is the consignor select yearling sale Sept. 3.
