Big Swag First Winner for The Pamplemousse

Gelding wins debut effort at 4 1/2 furlongs May 30 at Santa Anita Park.

Making his racing debut May 30 at Santa Anita Park, Big Swag became the first winner for sire The Pamplemousse in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event (VIDEO).

After dueling between horses on the backstretch and along the inside rounding the turn, Big Swag kicked clear in the stretch for Elvis Trujillo and rolled to a 3 1/4-length win in a time of :52.33 on a fast track.

Big Swag, a gray/roan gelding out of the multiple stakes-placed Boundary mare Border Fire, was bred in California by Hayes and Hayes. He is owned by Jeff Hayes, Jerome Higman, and Mike McGuire, et al., and trained by Dan Hendricks.

The Pamplemousse, a son of Kafwain, won the San Rafael and Sham stakes (both gr. III) in 2009 before injury ended his racing career with three wins from five starts and earnings of $209,280. He stands at Rancho San Miguel for $2,500.
