Five Tie for Fastest Furlong at OBS Show
Five youngsters shared honors for the fastest eighth of a mile breeze in :10 during the first of six sessions of the under-tack preview for next week's Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s June sale of 2-year-olds and horses of racing age.
There are 1,178 juveniles and 34 older horses cataloged for the four-day sale, set for June 17-20.
Hip No. 44, consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, agent, is a chestnut colt by Curlin   out of Rockintotherhythm, by Broad Brush, a half sister to graded stakes winner Haka.
Purchased by Thoroughbred Management for $55,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale where he was consigned by Claiborne Farm, agent for Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings and Indian Springs Farm Inc., the Kentucky-bred colt was entered in Fasig-Tipton's Florida sale at Adena Springs South in March.
He was scratched from that sale when a flake in an ankle was discovered after he breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 over the training track at Adena Springs.
"We got the flake taken care of and he's doing great," said Jimbo Gladwell of Top Line Sales. "He has been a straightforward colt all along. He has a lot of talent, and he's really matured (since the Florida sale)."
Hip No. 58 is a bay filly by Flatter   consigned by Bobby Dodd, agent. The Oklahoma-bred filly is out of Run Caroline Run, by Pentelicus, and she was acquired by Grand Oaks for $40,000 out of Eureka Thoroughbred Farm's consignment at last year's Fasig-Tipton Texas summer yearling sale.
Hip No. 121, Fast Flying Rumor, is a chestnut gelding by West Acre consigned by Texhoma, Inc. (Flynt Fesmire), agent. Bred in Florida by Gilbert Campbell, Fast Flying Rumor is out of the Silver Deputy mare Silver Scandal, a half sister to graded stakes-placed stakes winner Arch Rebel.
Fast Flying Rumor hails from the female family of graded stakes winner Customer Base and stakes winner Hyperlink.
"I've had the horse a little over a month," said Fesmire. "He has been well-prepped. He's been working great at the farm, so I expected a strong breeze. He's been outstanding. He's a beautiful mover, and I expect big things from him."
Eddie Woods consigns Hip No. 148, Avenue of Art, a bay colt by Artie Schiller   out of Sookloozy, by Avenue of Flags, a half sister to graded stakes-placed Royal Treasure.
Quarter Pole Enterprises bought the California-bred colt for $95,000 from consignor Sam Hendricks, agent for Walking G Ranch, at last year's Barretts October yearling sale.
Hip No. 187, a bay filly by Midshipman   consigned by Santa Fe Thoroughbreds, agent, rounded out the bullet workers at the distance. The bay filly is produced from the unraced A.P. Indy mare Storm Front, a half sister to graded stakes winner Utopian.
Bred in Kentucky, the filly was bought by Span Investment for $27,000 at last year's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale where she was consigned by Bluewater Sales.
Turning in the fastest breeze at a quarter of a mile was hip No. 2, a son of Bluegrass Cat   who traveled the distance in :20 4/5 for consignor Double Jak LLC, agent.
The bay colt is out of the unraced Seeking the Gold mare Radiating, a half sister to grade I winner Boisterous  . Double Jak Investments paid $17,000 for the colt at the Keeneland September sale where he was consigned by Warrendale Sales.
Hip No. 156, a dark bay or brown filly by Street Sense   consigned by Northwest Stud, agent, posted the fastest breeze at three furlongs, stopping the clock in :33 4/5.
Produced from the graded stakes-placed Smart Strike mare Special Grayce, the Kentucky-bred filly was consigned to the 2013 Keeneland September sale by Three Chimneys Sales, agent for White Fox Farm, where she was bought by Northwest Stud for $60,000.
