Macho Uno Filly Blazes at OBS June Preview

She spurts furlong in :09 4/5 June 13 following rain break at Ocala Training Center.

The fifth session of the under-tack preview for Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s June sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age wouldn't have been complete without a little rain.

As has been customary throughout the sale's under-tack shows at Ocala Training Center all week, the June 13 session was delayed slightly by mid-day thunderstorms that swept through the area. Despite the lightning and thunder, common occurrences at this time of year in Central Florida, all of the youngsters (hip numbers 801-1,000) slated to breeze during the session got their scheduled works in ahead of the sale, set for June 17-20.

Moments after the preview resumed shortly after noon following an elongated break, hip No. 836, a bay filly by Macho Uno  consigned by Albert Davis' Old South Farm, agent, blazed an eighth of a mile in :09 4/5 to top all workers during the session at the distance.

The half sister to two winners is produced from the winning Jade Hunter mare Jade Butterfly, a half sister to multiple grade I winner Diazo.

Davis purchased the Kentucky-bred filly as a weanling for $35,000 from consignor Pope McLean at the 2012 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

"She was a pretty filly," said Davis, recalling what he liked about his charge at the Keeneland sale. "It always surprises me a little bit when they work in :09 4/5, but I can't say I was surprised by her time. She is real kind."

Three juveniles, including a pair bred in Indiana, shared honors for the fastest quarter of a mile, each stopping the timer in a sprightly :20 4/5.

Hip No.808 is a bay colt by Magna Graduate  out of Icy Energy, by Unbridled Energy, consigned by Sergio Centeno's Blue River Bloodstock, agent. Bred in Indiana, the bay colt is from the family of 19-time winner Stormy Ambition and stakes winner Flirtacious Girl.

Southern Chase Farm (Greg and Karen Dodd), agent, consigns hip No. 841, Silver Jenny, a gray or roan filly by Lantana Mob produced from the Gold Case mare Jennierees, a half sister to multiple stakes winner Stormin Hanna. The Indiana-bred filly was consigned to last year's OBS August yearling sale by Select Sales where she was purchased by Southern Chase Farm for $45,000.

"If they were all like her this would be easy," said Greg Dodd. "The best thing about her is her mind. She's such a smart filly, she's push-button. She will do anything you want her to. We expected a work like that."

Rounding out the trio of fastest workers at the distance was hip No. 908, Never Give In, a Wildcat Heir colt out of the winning Roar mare Let It Roar, a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire Two Item Limit.

Bred and consigned by Brent and Crystal Fernung's Journeyman Bloodstock Services, the Florida-bred colt is a half brother to Rock On Baby, an earner of $180,514, and a full brother to the winner Miss Heir.

"He's a late foal, a mid-May baby," said Brent Fernung of the homebred. "So we decided to keep him and sell him here. He was still a little immature when it was time to enter for the (OBS) April sale. He looked like he needed time, and he sure has blossomed the last 45 days. It appears to have been the right decision. He has really benefited from the extra time."

Working the session's fastest three furlongs  in :33 1/5 was hip No. 927, a dark bay or brown colt by Exclusive Quality consigned by Gayle Woods, agent. The Florida-bred colt is out of the winning Lost Soldier mare Lost Link, a half sister to multiple stakes winner Bog Hunter.

The marathon under-tack preview concludes June 14 with hip No.'s 1,001-1,216 scheduled to breeze in the sixth session beginning at 7:30 a.m. EDT. The breeze show will be streamed live at bloodhorse.com/OBS.
