Blood-Horse Publications Honored by AHP

The company received three first-place awards and four second-place honors.

Blood-Horse Publications took first place in three categories at the annual AHP Awards contest:, which announced the results June 21 at its annual convention held this year in Charleston, S.C.

The first-place winners were:

•    Editorial Human-Animal Bond Photograph (Print)Anne Eberhardt for images from the "Saving New Lives" feature about the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute's neonatal care unit.
•    Online Equine-related Editorial Multi-media"Experience Santa Anita" interactive feature on, designed by Kim Reeves with content provided by Tracy Gantz and Crawford Ifland. Video work and editing done by Alex Cutadean.
•    Equine-related Specialty PublicationsBreeders' Cup Commemorative magazine; Katie Taylor, art director and Jackie Duke, editor.

The company also took several second-place finishes: Tracy Gantz received second in the Freelance Writer Equine-related Journalism category for "No Hollywood Ending," a magazine feature about the closing of Betfair Hollywood Park; Frank  Angst took second in Online News for "Horse's Death Exposes Holes in Regulatory Net," Esther Marr Zunker was recognized with a second place for her The Blood-Horse magazine story "Royalty Prevails" about Princess of Sylmar's victory in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), and videographer Scott Tracy got second for his video feature of the Keeneland Fall meet opening weekend.

Two honorable mentions were received in the Feature Article category for Angst's magazine feature "Not in the Same Ballpark," and for John Eisenberg's feature the "Silver Jubilee" that ran in Keeneland magazine.

The Horse's editor-in-chief Stephanie Church was also elected the new AHP president at the convention.
