South Africa-Based Sire Kahal Dies

Kahal, who stood in South Africa, is the sire of six grade/group I winners.

Kahal, a successful sire in South Africa who had been standing at Bush Hill Stud, died June 26 following complications related to abdominal tumors. He was 20.

Owned by Shadwell Stud, Kahal, by Machiavellian, earned grade/group II victories in the Challenge Stakes at Newmarket and the Nearctic Handicap at Woodbine.

Through June 25, Kahal has sired 34 stakes winners. This tally includes the grade/group I winners Love Struck, Desert Links, Noble Heir, Spiced Gold, Chocolicious and Bold Ellinore, South Africa's champion older female middle distance horse of 2007.
