Saratoga Race Course will host its first ever "live-money" tournament on Monday, July 28, when guests will be able to experience the thrill of tournament play for just $40.
The track plans to offer the "low roller" tourney every Monday of the summer meet.
The live-money format was first unveiled downstate at Belmont Park July 12 and was well received in its initial try. A total of 70 patrons entered, with the first-place finisher walking away with $490 in prize money. Second money was worth $140, and third was $70.
Of the entry fee, $10 goes to the prize pool, with 70% to be awarded to the first-place finisher, 20% to second, and 10% to third. The remaining $30 comprises the entrant's bankroll.
Participants must select five races on which to place live $2 win, place, and show wagers that must be placed on five different horses in five different races. Only Saratoga races will be accepted for contest play.
Sign-up will be on the first floor of the grandstand.
