Jess's Dream Stretches His Legs at Saratoga

Colt by Curlin--Rachel Alexandra getting into the racetrack routine.

“Here comes the most famous maiden in the world,” said one horseman Aug. 4 on the backside of Saratoga Race Course as unraced Jess’s Dream made his way to the main track.

Jess’s Dream is the product of two champions—Curlin  (Horse of the Year in 2007 and 2008) and Rachel Alexandra (Horse of the Year in 2009). The big strapping bay was the dream mating of the late Jess Jackson, owner of Stonestreet Stable, which is now run by his widow Barbara Banke. Jess's Dream was born Jan. 22, 2012. His name was chosen in a contest and revealed in the winner's circle at Saratoga following the running of the 2012 Curlin Stakes.

“All we wanted today was for him to gallop once around,” said trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. “He looked great. We’ll learn more; he’s only been here 27 hours.”

The colt stepped out onto the main track around 9:30 a.m., galloping easily in company. His first start is anticipated for the fall.
