Mid-Atlantic-based jockey Jesus Sanchez and Amabassador Satch rallied from sixth place to score a head victory in the eighth race at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races the night of Sept. 3 as the rider secured the 1,000th win of his career.
Sanchez and Ambassador Satch rallied four or five wide through the final turn in the seven-furlong maiden claiming race and moved within a head of the lead while third in midstretch. Despite trying to lug in, Ambassador Satch dug in for Sanchez and secured the narrow win over The Greak Milenko.
In his 14th season, Sanchez has won 1,000 races from 9,492 mounts and those mounts have earned $16,295,404 in purses. Sanchez, of Ranson, W. Va., has won nine stakes races in his career, all at Charles Town, with three of those wins coming in 2009 aboard Son of a Bear. Sanchez earned the Charles Town riding title in 2000.
A Harold Armstrong homebred, Ambassador Satch completed seven furlongs aournd two turns in 1:30.41 on the fast track.
