Chris' Brew, Galina Point Top Woodbine Stakes

Gelding on a win streak takes on Pender Harbour in co-feature on Nov. 30 card.

Chris' Brew rides a three-race win streak into the co-featured $125,000 Sir Barton Stakes Nov. 30 at Woodbine, while South Ocean Stakes victress Galina Point tops the $150,000 Ontario Lassie Stakes for Ontario-bred juvenile fillies.

Trained by Kevin Attard for Terra Racing Stable, Chris' Brew arrives at the Polytrack route for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds and up from a trio of driving scores at the 1 1/16-mile Sir Barton distance. The bay gelding, a sophomore son of Milwaukee Brew , is a half brother to the multiple graded stakes-placed mare Why Katherine, did not make it to the races as a juvenile but is quickly making up for lost time.

Chris' Brew debuted March 29 at Gulfstream Park, finishing a distant eighth before shipping up to Woodbine where he rallied to be a good fourth in a maiden allowance route on July 20. A failed turf try on Aug. 15 was quickly forgotten with a return to 'Poly' and a string of success after he rallied last to first to break his maiden Sept. 1.

On Sept. 20, Chris' Brew emerged a narrow head victor in a 14-horse strong allowance field, setting up an impressive 1 1/2-length score last time out against open company on Oct. 17.  Justin Stein takes over from Eurico Rosa Da Silva, who is in Tokyo to ride Up With the Birds in the Japan Cup (Jpn-I).

To earn his first stakes score, Chris' Brew will have to topple a field of eight that includes millionaire champion Pender Harbour. Trained by Mike DePaulo, the now 6-year-old chestnut son of Philanthropist boasts a record of 11-6-6 from 33 career starts and purse earnings in excess of $1.6 million.

Pender Harbour has thrived in 2014, winning three of eight starts, including added-money victories in the Steady Growth and Elgin Stakes, both at a distance of 1 1/16 miles. Last time out, Pender Harbour endured a troubled start but rallied to be fourth in the grassy Bunty Lawless Stakes behind Sir Barton rivals San Nicola Thunder and Iroquois Falls. Patrick Husbands, Woodbine's leading rider, takes over from Luis Contreras, who is in Tokyo competing in the World Super Jockey Series.

Th Original Scotty, Freitag, Bobcaygeon, and Spadina Road complete the field.

Also featured on Sunday is the Ontario Lassie Stakes  headlined by South Ocean Stakes winner Galina Point. The bay daughter of Saffir, trained by Mark Casse for owner Gary Barber, boasts a record of 2-2-0 from five starts. Husbands retains the mount.

The 1 1/16-mile event on Polytrack also features London Tower, a romping 7 3/4-length maiden winner on debut. In her only other start last time out, the daughter of Head Chopper finished a determined third behind Brooklynsway and Shez a Masterpiece in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes Nov. 11. Shez a Masterpiece is entered in both the Ontario Lassie and Saturday's Coronation Futurity.
