Vyjack Aims for One More Win in Queens County

Fifth in Cigar Mile, gelding comes back on two-week turnaround Dec. 13 at Aqueduct.

Pick Six Racing's Vyjack will get one more start of 2014, and his connections hope to make it a win in the $100,000 Queens County Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack Dec. 13.

The 1 1/8-mile test drew a group of 10 including one lone 3-year-old, Repole Stable's Misconnect for trainer Bruce Levine. Repole's Micromanage  totes highweight of 123 pounds from the 6 hole for trainer Todd Pletcher. Misconnect, who drew post 5, and Micromanage are coupled in the wagering.

Vyjack, a 4-year-old Into Mischief  gelding who won the Sept. 27 Kelso Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park, followed that performance with a fifth in the Cigar Mile (gr. I) two months later at Aqueduct Nov. 29. The Rudy Rodriguez trainee lacked the needed response and was never better than fifth in the Cigar, but has every right to rebound here with a 115-pound assignment from post 4 under regular rider Irad Ortiz Jr.

Micromanage also seeks a rebound, running 10th last time out in Aqueduct's Red Smith Handicap (gr. III) Nov. 15 over yielding turf. The 4-year-old son of Medaglia d'Oro  has not won since the listed Birdstone Stakes in August at Saratoga Race Course. That was an impressive airing for the Todd Pletcher trainee, who won by 8 1/2 lengths while favored in the 1 3/4-mile test. He departs with Manuel Franco in the irons.

Misconnect won an Oct. 31 allowance going a mile at Aqueduct by a neck. He is a ridgling son of Unbridled's Song and will be ridden by Dylan Davis from the 5 hole.

Pletcher has Gary Barber's graded stakes-placed Percussion in this spot as well, a 6-year-old Bluegrass Cat  gelding in search of his first win since May 2013.

A runner of interest is Lawrence P. Roman and David Jacobson's Stormin Monarcho, back-to-back winner of the Nov. 29 Swatara Stakes going 1 1/16 miles at Penn National Racecourse and the Nov. 15 Richard W. Small Stakes at 1 1/8 miles at Laurel Park

Jacobson also has Wealth to Me, winner of a Dec. 6 allowance at Laurel, wheeling back in a week from post 10. The 7-year-old Tapit  gelding races in partnership with Drawing Away Stable.
