Record-Breaker Alchaasibiyeh Dies at Age 32

Alchaasibiyeh is the dam of Caulfield Cup (Aus-I) winner Fraar.

Alchaasibiyeh, who set a world record when she sold for $3.75 million at the 1984 Keeneland July selected yearling sale, died at age 32 March 12 at Elizabeth Mateo's Premier Thoroughbreds farm in Alpharetta, Ga.

The pensioned daughter of Seattle Slew died Thursday after suffering a stroke, a spokesperson for the farm reported.

Alchaasibiyeh set a world record for a yearling filly at public auction when she sold to Darley Stud Management from consignor Spendthrift Farm. She was the highest-priced filly sold at a Keeneland yearling sale until 2000. Carla Matthews bred Alchaasibiyeh in Kentucky.

While Alchaasibiyeh did not win in six starts in England, she produced seven winners from as many starters including 1993 Caulfield Cup (Aus-I) winner Fraar, a colt by Topsider

Fraar was the first foal produced by Alchaasibiyeh. She also produced group II-placed Alami, by Danzig.
