Coolmore has announced their purchase of controlling interest in unbeaten Golden Slipper Stakes (Aus-I) winner Vancouver. The colt's current owners will remain involved in his racing and stud career as well.
"There was obviously a massive amount of interest in the horse so we are delighted to have secured him," Coolmore's Tom Magnier said of the Australian-bred son of Medaglia d'Oro , who is perfect in four career starts. "He's a brilliant colt and we and our partners, who include the China Horse Club, Ramsey Pastoral, and Peters Investments, couldn't be more excited about his future."
"Vancouver, along with another of our recent investments, (Blue Diamond Aus-I winner) Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry), serve to illustrate the long-term commitment of Coolmore to the Australian breeding industry. Both of these wonderful racehorses were born and raised at our Jerrys Plains property in the Hunter Valley and are a ringing endorsement that there is no finer source of quality bloodstock."
"Vancouver is a very good looking horse from a dominant sire line—and just look at the record of Slipper winners at stud," said Coolmore manager Michael Kirwan.
Prior to the Golden Slipper victory March 21 at Rosehill Gardens, Vancouver captured the March 7 Todman Stakes (Aus-II) in the fastest 1,200-mer (about six-furlong) time ever recorded by a 2 year-old at Randwick. His time for the Golden Slipper (1:09.74) equaled Coolmore's other Golden Slipper winner and champion 2-year-old Pierro in 2012.
Vancouver, bred in Australia by John Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds, was produced by the stakes-placed Danehill mare Skates, who also is the dam of group I winner Juste Momente, by Giant's Causeway, and stakes winner Captain Coltish, by Fusaichi Pegasus. He was a $185,000 (US$165,168) purchase by trainer Gai Waterhouse and bloodstock agent James Harron at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale, with Coolmore the consigning agent.
