The 2010 Horse of the Year is carrying her fourth foal after taking a full year off from breeding following her last pregnancy, which resulted in the birth of a War Front filly who died in a paddock accident last fall.
Zenyatta has produced a 2012 colt by Bernardini named Cozmic One, and a 2013 colt by Tapit named Ziconic. Both are in training in New York with John Shirreffs, who campaigned Zenyatta throughout her career.
"We're so happy to share the news that Zenyatta is 36 days in foal to War Front," read an announcement on the mare's official fan website, Zenyatta.com. "She was given a full year off following her last pregnancy and was bred in April so that her 2016 foal, her fourth, will be born in the spring."
Zenyatta, a 9-year-old daughter of Street Cry owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, won 19 races in a row including the 2008 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (gr. I) and the 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) before suffering her only loss to Blame in her final start, the Breeders' Cup Classic of 2010. She is out of the Kris S. mare Vertigineux and now resides at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky.
War Front, a grade II-winning son of Danzig who stands at Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky., is the sire of 36 stakes winners, 19 graded, including Data Link , Declaration of War , Departing, Jack Milton , Lines of Battle, Summer Soiree, The Factor , and Warning Flag. He is out of the Rubiano mare Starry Dreamer.
