One of four horses featured on the front cover of Keeneland September yearling sale Book 1 is Lady Eli, a $160,000 sale grad whose two grade I wins include the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Brutus Clay of Runnymede Farm hopes the buzz generated by Lady Eli before she was injured following a win in the Belmont Oaks Invitational (gr. IT) resonates with Keeneland sale buyers when Hip 577 goes through the ring Sept. 16. The Ghostzapper half brother to Lady Eli and to dual grade III winner Bizzy Caroline has been inspected by "the right people," Clay said, and they have liked what they saw.
"He is a nice-looking individual," Clay said. "He has a nice shoulder, really good hip. He probably doesn't have as much scope as his half sisters but he is a nice combination of Ghostzapper and Saint Ballado."
Despite how well the colt has shown, Clay knows it's only what happens in the ring that counts. "You never know until they go through there," he said.
