Mike Repole’s Overanalyze hopped back on the Triple Crown trail with his major score in the Arkansas Derby (gr. I). He fizzled in his first 2013 outing, a fifth-place finish in the March 2 Gotham Stakes (gr. III) in New York. The son of Dixie Union has been well-meant from the beginning, having competed in nothing but graded stakes since breaking his maiden first time out at Saratoga last August. Overanalyze was purchased by Repole Stables through J.J. Crupi, agent, for $380,000 during the third session of the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale from the Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, consignment. “We bought him as a team, with Eddie Rosen, who does the pedigrees, and Jim Martin, who is Repole’s stable manager,” said Crupi. “He was just a big, gorgeous-looking horse. Everybody agreed on him. He X-rayed very clean; he had no issues. He just looked like he was a runner. He looked like when I was buying Uncle Mo, he had the look.” Unacloud, the dam of the Arkansas Derby winner, was purchased by Gerald Ford’s Diamond A Farm in 2006 for $400,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November sale while in foal to Teton Forest. She was consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent. Unacloud is a daughter of Unaccounted For, winner of the 1994 Jim Dandy Stakes (gr. II) and 1995 Whitney Handicap (gr. I) for Morven Stud Farm and Hall of Fame trainer Scotty Schulhofer. Meadow Breeze, the 2006 Matron Stakes (gr. I) winner out of Unacloud, was bred in Florida by Stoneriggs Farm. “She’s a mid-sized mare,” said Mac Carr, farm manager at Diamond A, of Unacloud. “She’s kind of nondescript, but she’s got a little daylight under her. Overanalyze was probably the best foal she ever had. She has pretty foals, but he was by far the best.” “He kind of out-bred himself,” Carr said of Overanalyze’s sire, Dixie Union, who raced for Diamond A and Herman Sarkowsky. “He wasn’t real big, but he bred up. Most of the foals we had were bigger than he was.” In foal to Tiznow, Unacloud is due to foal any day and is slated to be bred to Giant’s Causeway for 2014. Dixie Union, winner of the 2000 Haskell Invitational Handicap and Malibu Stakes (both gr. I), stood at William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm through the 2010 season. He was euthanized due to suffering from neurological problems in July of that year. He is the sire of 46 stakes winners.—E.H. |
