Sixty Sails H. Recap

John Greathouse of Glencrest Farm admitted that while Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) winner Disposablepleasure may have not been the most glamorous prospect at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale, she fit the criteria he was looking for at the time.

“She was a filly I could afford, she had some female family, and she was a good, correct filly that was going to fall through the cracks,” said Greathouse of the daughter of Giacomo, whom he bought for $45,000 from Bluewater Sales, agent.

Greathouse, who campaigns Disposablepleasure in the name of his family’s Midway, Ky.-based Glencrest Farm, has now been rewarded in numerous ways by the 4-year-old filly. She also won the 2011 Demoiselle Stakes (gr. II) at Aqueduct Racetrack in her stakes debut and placed in three additional graded stakes, including the 2012 Mother Goose Stakes (gr. I).

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Disposablepleasure holds an overall record of 4-3-1 from 13 starts, for earnings of $515,460.

“Brushed by a Star, who finished second (in the Sixty Sails) is a nice filly, so I was glad to get the jump on her,” added Greathouse, who has been represented by numerous other stakes winners over the years, including grade I victors Devil May Care, Panty Raid, and Honey Ryder. “We’ll scratch our heads and see where we’ll go next (with Disposablepleasure), but I’m glad to have her back doing what we thought she could do at 2.”

Disposablepleasure was bred in Kentucky by Doug Branham, who owns Hurricane Hills Farm in Central Kentucky.

She is out of the With Approval mare My Canada, who is a half or full sister to three stakes winners, including graded victor Riley Tucker (by Harlan’s Holiday). Other prominent female family members include grade II winner Hey Hazel (by Ascot Knight) and Brazilian group I victors Pura Classe (by Grand Slam) and Secret Ridge (by Choctaw Ridge).

In addition to Disposablepleasure My Canada is also the dam of stakes winner and graded stakes-placed runner Romantic Hideaway and two other winners. Her youngest offspring is a 2-year-old unraced Old Fashioned colt named Fashion Seeker. My Canada aborted a foal by Elusive Quality in 2012 and was bred to Medaglia d’Oro for 2013.

Giacomo is the sire of 12 stakes winners, including other 2013 added-money victors Tiz Gianni, Fancy Cruz (in Argentina), and Giacom (in Argentina). Giacomo stands for $5,000 at Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs near Paris, Ky.—E.M.
