Super Saver made his connections forget all about his fourth-place finish in the Oct. 10 Champagne Stakes (gr. I) when he posted a stellar five-length victory in his very next start: the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II) at Churchill Downs.

A juvenile son of MariaÕs Mon, Super Saver was a distant runner-up in his career debut at 61Ú2 furlongs at Saratoga last summer, finishing 61Ú4 lengths behind the winner. But when stretched out to a mile in his next start, the bay colt showed his true form with a front-running, seven-length romp.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for breeders Bill Casner and Kenny TrouttÕs WinStar Farm, Super Saver has now earned $171,232 from his four lifetime starts.

Casner and Troutt, both residents of Texas, bought the former Prestonwood Farm property near Versailles, Ky., in 2000 which they eventually developed into WinStar. In addition to a band of approximately 100 broodmares, the farm is home to six stallions and has around 70 horses in training.

WinStarÕs top horses of 2009 include Well Armed, winner of the 2009 Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (UAE-I), and other graded stakes victors Advice, American Lion, and Hold Me Back (last two are homebreds). As breeders alone or in partnership, the operation is additionally represented by 2009 graded victors Witty, Rendezvous, and Girolamo.

Super Saver is out of the winning A.P. Indy mare Supercharger, who was bought for $160,000 by WinStar through B.T.A. Stable, agent, at the 2006 Keeneland November mixed sale. Consigned by LaneÕs End, agent, she was carrying Super Saver.

Supercharger is a full sister to graded stakes winners Daydreaming, Accelerator, and the aforementioned Girolamo, who won the Oct. 11 Jerome Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park. Supercharger is also a full sister to SheÕs a Winner, who is the dam of grade I-winning millionaire Bluegrass Cat, a WinStar homebred.

In addition, SuperchargerÕs grade III-winning dam Get Lucky (by Mr. Prospector) is a daughter of grade I victor Dance Number (by Northern Dancer) and a full sister to champion Rhythm. Among SuperchargerÕs most recent offspring are a yearling Distorted Humor colt and an Awesome Again filly, born March 31. The 14-year-old mare was bred to Medaglia dÕOro for 2010.

MariaÕs Mon is the sire of 47 stakes winners. Among his eight added-money winners of 2009 are graded victors Awesome Maria (gr. II), Expansion (gr. IIT), Well Monied (gr. IIT), and Ice Bear (Can-III). MariaÕs Mon stood at Josephine AbercrombieÕs Pin Oak Stud near Versailles, Ky., until he was euthanized due to multiple organ dysfunction in 2007.ÑE.M.
