It didnÕt take long for 2-year-old Interactif to show a liking for turf racing. In his first start over grass, the son of Broken Vow captured the Sept. 4 With Anticipation Stakes (gr. IIIT) at 11Ú16 miles at Saratoga.

ÒI thought he worked exceptionally well,Ó said trainer Todd Pletcher about the coltÕs half-mile work over grass in :48.95 Aug. 28. ÒHe was a colt that had shown talent, but we thought maybe we were missing a step.Ó

Interactif began his career with a head triumph at Monmouth Park. He then ran unplaced, beaten eight lengths, in the July 30 Sanford Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga.

In the With Anticipation, Interactif went off at 15-1 and defeated 2-1 favorite Jung Man Scott. Interactif, who trailed early, got out to a 41Ú2-length lead at the eighth pole and won by 41Ú4 lengths in 1:41.41.

Interactif races as a homebred for brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer in the name of Wertheimer and Frere (brother). The Wertheimers are members of the family that owns the Chanel perfume manufacturing business.

The Wertheimers, who race extensively in Europe, are represented by several other stakes winners this year, including homebreds Goldikova and Meteore. Goldikova, who won two French group I stakes in August, is awaiting the Nov. 7 BreedersÕ Cup Mile (gr. IT) at Oak Tree at Santa Anita, a race she won last year at the track. Meteore captured the Aug. 15 La Jolla Handicap (gr. IIT) at Del Mar.

InteractifÕs dam, unraced Broad Pennant, who was bred by Phipps Stables, was acquired privately by the Wertheimers before she produced her first foal. Her second foal, Stretching, developed into a stakes winner for Wertheimer and Frere.

Broad Pennant, whose second dam is Hall of Famer and 1996 Kentucky Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign, is kept at the WertheimersÕ Hagyard Farm near Lexington. Her 2009 foal, Unicity, is by Dynaformer. Broad Pennant is in foal to Indian Charlie.

Broken Vow has sired 25 stakes winners. His eight added-money winners this year also include Unbridled Belle (gr. III). Broken Vow stands at Josephine AbercrombieÕs Pin Oak Stud near Versailles, Ky. His 2009 fee was $30,000.ÑD.S.
