SidneyÕs Candy won the March 13 San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita the same way he captured his first Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) prep of the year. The son of grade I winner Candy Ride got out to the lead and stayed there.

SidneyÕs Candy, who captured the Feb. 15 San Vicente Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita in his only other start in 2010, won the 11Ú16-mile San Felipe by a half-length over Interactif, with previously unbeaten Caracortado finishing third as the 7-5 favorite. The San Felipe triumph moved SidneyÕs Candy into Steve HaskinÕs Derby Dozen (see page 1005).

Four winners of the San Felipe have won the Kentucky Derby. The first was Determine in 1954, followed by Affirmed in 1978, Sunday Silence in 1989, and Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000.

SidneyÕs Candy, who races for the Sid and Jenny Craig Trust, is scheduled to run next in the April 3 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I). Determine, Affirmed, and Sunday Silence followed up their San Felipe triumphs with victories in the Santa Anita Derby.

SidneyÕs Candy was bred by the Craigs, who founded the internationally renowned Jenny Craig weight loss centers. Sid Craig died in July 2008.

Jenny Craig was represented in the 2009 Kentucky Derby by Chocolate Candy. Bred by the Craigs, Chocolate Candy ran fifth for the Sid and Jenny Craig Trust.

The Craigs together raced Candy Ride, and Sid Craig campaigned SidneyÕs CandyÕs second dam, Exchange, who won three grade I stakes in Southern California.

Jenny Craig boards SidneyÕs CandyÕs dam, Fair Exchange, at William S. FarishÕs LaneÕs End Farm near Versailles, Ky. Fair Exchange has been bred this year to Candy Ride.

Candy Ride has sired 10 stakes winners, including Misremembered, who won the March 6 Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I). Candy Ride stands for $25,000 at LaneÕs End.ÑD.S.
