The only thing Blame had to take responsibility for June 12 was another win. The 4-year-old son of Arch, who has been on the board for all 10 of his career starts, won for the fourth consecutive time when he bested Battle Plan by three-quarters of a length in the Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.
Blame, who scored his previous wins in the May 15 William Donald Schaefer Stakes (gr. III) at Pimlico, and last yearÕs Clark Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill and Fayette Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland, pushed his earnings past the million-dollar mark in the Stephen Foster.
Trained by Albert Stall Jr., Blame is campaigned as a homebred by the Hancock familyÕs Paris, Ky.-based Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider. Claiborne is represented by additional 2010 graded stakes winner Haka, who took the Doubledogdare Stakes (gr. III) at Keeneland April 16.
Impressively, Claiborne has bred the last four generations of BlameÕs female family. The bay colt is out of the winning, stakes-placed Seeking the Gold mare Liable, who is a daughter of stakes winner Bound (by Nijinsky II) and a half sister to the group I-winning multi-millionaire Archipenko (by Kingmambo).
Considerable talent also stems from the family of LiableÕs second dam Special (by Forli), who is a full sister to Irish and English champion Thatch. Special is the dam of French champion and leading sire Nureyev (by Northern Dancer), as well as Irish champion filly Fairy Bridge (by Bold Reason), who produced the champion racehorse and legendary sire SadlerÕs Wells (by Northern Dancer).
Blame is a half brother to the stakes-winning Dynaformer gelding Tend. Liable, who was barren to the cover of Dynaformer in 2009, delivered a Tiznow filly April 14.
Arch, the sire of 26 stakes winners, stands for $25,000 at Claiborne.ÑE.M.
