The third time was the charm for You and I Forever at Gulfstream Park this year. The 5-year-old son of A.P. Indy won the March 13 Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. II) at a mile after finishing second in the HalÕs Hope Stakes (gr. III) in January at the South Florida track and unplaced in the Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship (gr. II) in February. The Gulfstream Park Handicap was You and I ForeverÕs first stakes win. The Gulfstream Park Handicap finish proved extra special to Marty Wolfson, who not only trains You and I Forever but also runner-up Motovato. You and I Forever, bred by the late Edmund A. Gann, won for GannÕs estate. ÒHe wasnÕt even going to run,Ó Wolfson said about You and I Forever. ÒA deal has been made (by GannÕs estate) to sell the horse to interests in Saudi Arabia as a stud prospect. I begged them last night to let me run him. ÒMotovato ran a big race, too, and might even have won if he was outside. He loves the outside. They are both amazing horses to still be running. Both have had multiple surgeries. At least I get to keep Motovato.Ó Gann, who died Feb. 7, raced You and I ForeverÕs dam, You, and YouÕs sire, You and I. You won or placed in a dozen grade I stakes. At 2, she took the Frizette Stakes (gr. I). As a 3-year-old, she captured the Acorn (gr. I), Test (gr. I), and Las Virgenes (gr. I) Stakes and the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I). You and IÕs big win came in the 1995 Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I). A.P. Indy has sired 131 stakes winners, including additional 2010 added-money winners Lomaki (gr. IIIT) and Friesan Fire. A.P. Indy stands for $150,000 at William S. FarishÕs LaneÕs End Farm near Versailles, Ky.ÑD.S |
