Dixie Chatter, a grade I winner over the main track at Santa Anita as a 2-year-old in 2007, now sports a grade II win over the trackÕs turf course. The son of Dixie Union won the mile Arcadia Handicap April 4 in his third start of the year. Dixie Chatter, who won the Arcadia by three-quarters of a length over Mr Napper Tandy, races for his breeder, Herman Sarkowsky, in partnership with Martin and Pam Wygod. Sarkowsky lives near Seattle, and the Wygods reside in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. As a 2-year-old, Dixie Chatter won the Norfolk Stakes (gr. I). The following year he captured a division of the Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar. Dixie Chatter was foaled at Crystal Springs Farm near Georgetown, Ky. He arrived at Hidden Brook near Paris, Ky., in May 2006 to be prepped for that yearÕs Keeneland September yearling sale. Consigned by Hidden Brook, agent, Dixie Chatter did not reach his reserve and was bought back for $220,000. He has earned $458,196. Sarkowsky is the breeder of not only Dixie Chatter but also Dixie Union and Dixie ChatterÕs first two dams, Mini Chat and Phone Chatter, respectively. Dixie Union and Phone Chatter were grade I winners. Mini Chat was unraced. Racing for Sarkowsky and Gerald FordÕs Diamond A Racing, Dixie Union won five graded stakes, including the 2000 Haskell Invitational Handicap (gr. I) and the Malibu Stakes (gr. I). He stands at stud at William S. FarishÕs LaneÕs End Farm near Versailles, Ky. Phone Chatter won three graded stakes for Sarkowsky, including the 1993 BreedersÕ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), the year she was voted divisional champion. Phone Chatter also developed into a graded stakes producer for Sarkowsky. A daughter, Cat Chat, won the Nassau County Stakes (gr. II) for Jayeff B Stables. Sarkowsky, whose other stakes winners as a breeder include graded winner and major sire Mr. Greeley, no longer owns Mini Chat. She was consigned by Stonereath Farms, agent, to the 2006 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, where Marula Park Stud and Tony Holmes purchased her for $100,000. Mini Chat was in foal to Tale of the Cat. Dixie Union has sired 26 stakes winners, including additional 2009 added-money winners Justwhistledixie (gr. II) and Fierce Wind. Dixie UnionÕs fee at LaneÕs End is $35,000.ÑD.S. |
