One of the best producing families in the stud book in recent years inked more black type to its page when Justenuffhumor won the Aug. 2 Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT) at Saratoga.

It was the first stakes start for Justenuffhumor, who made his first start last year on Polytrack at Keeneland and finished ninth. But this year all five of his starts have been on turf and the 4-year-old son of Distorted Humor has won all of those grass outings.

The first foal out of JustenuffhumorÕs dam, the Broad Brush mare Justenuffheart, was unraced, but since then she has had three straight graded stakes winners, Justenuffhumor being the third member of that group. Her second foal was Lewis Michael, a graded stakes winner in 2007 and 2008, and her third foal was Dreaming of Anna, the champion juvenile filly of 2006 off a win in the BreedersÕ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I). Lewis Michael and Dreaming of Anna are full siblings, both being by Rahy.

Now comes JustenuffheartÕs fourth foal, Justenuffhumor, who jumped into stakes company in the Fourstardave and had no trouble with his competitors, coming from off the pace to strike the lead down the stretch and drawing off under Alan Garcia to win going away by 21Ú2 lengths. With five wins in six starts for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, Justenuffhumor increased his earnings to $197,400.

Justenuffhumor was bred in Kentucky by Greg GoodmanÕs Mt. Brilliant Farm, which consigned him as a yearling to the 2006 Keeneland September sale. He was purchased by Sheikh MohammedÕs bloodstock manager, John Ferguson, for $550,000 and races for Sheikh MohammedÕs Darley Stable.

Since producing Justenuffhumor, Justenuffheart has produced Desert Song, a 3-year-old filly by UnbridledÕs Song; a juvenile filly by GiantÕs Causeway named Justenufftime, bred and owned by Mt. Brilliant; and a yearling colt by Storm Cat, bred by Mt. Brilliant in partnership with Racehorse Management, who will be sold at the Keeneland September sale. She did not produce a foal this year, losing a full sibling to Justenuffhumor. The 14-year-old mare is back in foal to Distorted Humor.

Justenuffheart herself was a two-time stakes winner and her dam, the Lear Fan mare KittenÕs First, also became a top producer. She is the dam of 2004 champion grass horse KittenÕs Joy, who earned more than $2 million on the racetrack and now is standing at stud. In addition, KittenÕs First is the dam of Precious Kitten, who was a grade I winner in 2007 and 2008.

Justenuffhumor is one of 76 stakes winners sired by Distorted Humor, a former leading sire who this year ranks third on the general sire list through Aug. 2. Distorted Humor is represented this year by 11 stakes winners including Regal Ransom (gr. II), Witty (gr. III), and BuddyÕs Humor (gr. IIIT). He stands at Kenny Troutt and Bill CasnerÕs WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky., where his fee this year was $150,000.ÑD.M.L.
